The Face the Facts website has a number of resources that can help support community health promotion activities, including:

Tobacco Control Facts at a Glance (August 2009) [677.5 KB pdf] contains useful tobacco control facts such as the health effects of smoking, smoking rates in New Zealand, etc. Further references are also included for those who wish to obtain further information.

Beginner’s Guide to Tobacco Control [1.2MB pdf] is a comprehensive resource designed for New Zealand tobacco control workers new to the sector to get them up to speed quickly. The Guide includes information on key contacts, the history of tobacco control, public health and health promotion, research, smoking cessation and addiction, priority groups, effects of tobacco, including second-hand smoke, facts and figures, the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, and the tobacco industry.

Auahi Kore

The Auahi Kore website has a number of resources that have been developed to support and promote the Auahi Kore kaupapa. By wearing or using these resources, you help to promote the kaupapa. Material includes:

Smokefree Schools

The Smokefree schools website offers information, ideas and resources to help schools/kura develop and promote a smokefree school community.


A number of useful resources have been developed to support and promote schools. Material includes:

  • Staying Smokefree/Te Noho Auahi Kore – a cross-curriculum resource for years 7 and 8. Although its primary focus is levels 3 and 4 of the health and physical education learning area, it also has links to most learning areas, including mathematics and statistics, and English.
  • Our Smokefree Schools - a practical guide contains practical advice for principals and Boards of Trustees on how to take small steps or make major change towards embedding smokefree lifestyles into the culture of your school. The guide includes tools to help your school and community create a profile of beliefs, attitudes and behaviours in relation to being smokefree/auahi kore.  The information you gather will enable you to plan goals for your school's smokefree/auahi kore journey.
  • Smokefree/Auahi Kore school/kura policies have been proven to reduce student smoking when they are comprehensive and well implemented.Evidence also suggests the social and cultural aspects of a school community can help young people remain smokefree.
